Our Story
It started with a birthday, a 16th birthday in September of 2019 to be exact. It was a conversation between a father and his son that went something like this, “Time to get a job or make a job, think about it and let us know what you want to do.” A few weeks later the choice was made, “Let’s make a job,” so the journey began. The decision was made to offer laser engraving services and a name was chosen. Impact Lazer was formally established in December 2019 and by March 2020 we were open for business.
Over the next 18 months, we learned a lot about business. Everything from taxes to customer service. It was awesome. The best part, by far, was the money we were able to donate to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund over that time period. In total, we were able to donate $800, way more than we thought we'd ever be able to generate, especially given the challenges of running a business during the COVID-19 pandemic. Special thanks to Carie O'Quinn and the First Health Foundation of Pinehurst for helping us make those donations!
In the summer of 2021 we left North Carolina after living there for 14 years to move to Austin, TX. Our oldest son graduated high school and the decision was made to close the business and sell our equipment. The purpose of the company had been achieved, make a positive Impact, and learn a lot along the way.
Fast Forward to February of 2022 and a new conversation happened. This time it was the younger son, soon to be 16, asking the Dad, "Do you think we could restart that engraving business?". Having seen what his older brother accomplished, he was looking to make some money and have a positive Impact. A deal was struck to restart the business. A deal that was closed with a simple handshake after drafting up a business plan. Equipment was purchased and by March 2022, Impact Lazer was once again open for business.
What started as a project between a father and his sons has now become a family venture with everyone helping to run the business. We enjoy providing this service to our community, meeting our neighbors, and the act of giving back.
